As a kid I always loved Dragonite, a true hero of kanto. It delivers the mail every day and under any weather condition. It doesn’t fear any danger the job brings as long as it could make the people happy. Though with its good nature, is a more uncontrollable side. If Dragonite is threatened, it will go on a rampage. So, it is always best to stay on this Pokémon’s good side. Ever since Mewtwo used Dragonite to deliver an invitation to Ash Ketchum to get to New Island, Dragonite has remained a cherished and valued Pokémon.

Category And Element Of Dragonite

Dragonite is a draconic Pokémon with light orange skin. It has large gray-green eyes with a long antenna on top of its head with a small horn in the middle. Its underside is cream-colored and has small wings for such a large body. Dragonite is capable of flying faster than the speed of sound. Dragonite is classified as a Dragon/Flying Pokémon. The Dragonite skeleton fossil in the Nacrene City Museum implies that Dragonite is an ancient species, and that it is seemingly unchanged over millions of years. One of Dragonite’s signature abilities is Inner Focus.

2000 Pokémon Rocket Dark Dragonite No Holo

In the Team Rocket set (1st edition and unlimited set) the Holo version of Dark Dragonite is numbered 5/82 and the non-holo counterpart is number 22/82. During the sets printing, few of the Dark Dragonites that were numbered 5/82 and meant to be holo, were printed accidentally without its holo foil, making it look exactly like its’ non holo counterpart. This Dragonite card was a part of the Team Rocket set released in English on April 24, 2000. It was based on Pokémon Red, Blue and Green, featuring Generation I Pokémon.

This Dragonite is a Dark Pokémon and has a higher attack damage and lower HPs compared to a normal Dragonite. This Dragonite card was included in the set as both a Holofoil and a non-Holofoil, like the card pictured above. 5000 of the Hologoil Team Rocket prints were printed as non-Holofoil and have the Energy Cost for the Giant Tail attack vertically misaligned.

PSA Population Report:

There have only been 131 of these cards submitted to the PSA for grading. Out of that amount, only 12 have received a perfect grade of Gem Mint 10 condition. A majority of the cards, with a total of 58, are rated Mint 9 condition and are significantly less expensive. A Gem mint 9 will only get around $1,500. The lowest grade given for this card was a grade of PR 1. if you can find this card in Gem Mint 10 condition it will drastically improve your price for the card.

1999 Pokémon Fossil Dragonite- Holo 1st Edition

Fossil was the third main expansion of cards for the Pokémon Trading Card Game released in English on October 10, 1999, and was the last expansion to use the Galaxy Star Holofoil. This Dragonite card is a Colorless-type stage 2 Pokémon card. Although this card shows Dragonite as a level 45, Dragonair does not evolve into Dragonite until level 55. This is a magnificent Galaxy Star Hololfoil that really makes it seem like there is a galaxy surrounding Dragonite.

PSA Population Report:

There has been a high amount of 2,811 1st Edition Fossil Dragonite Holo’s submitted to the PSA for grading. A whopping 1,253 have been graded a PSA grade of Mint 9. With only 212 of these cards ever getting a perfect PSA grade of Gem Mint 10 condition. The lowest grade was a grade of Auth. The PSA still estimates that this card is going to continue to increase in price. This card is a classic and was one of the first cards for Dragonite that a lot of kids in 1999 got from the Fossil set.

2003 Pokémon EX Dragonite EX- Holo Dragon

Dragonite EX Dragon was included in the English November 24, 2003 release of the Pokémon -e TCG: EX Dragon expansion. This set was based on Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire and included Generation III Pokémon. This card was a Colorless- type stage 2 Pokémon- ex card. It has 150 Hit Points and Resistance to both Fighting- type and Grass- Type Pokémon. This card is also able to be read by an e-Reader. The background features a black cosmos galaxy background with bright white swirls and a sparkling gray boarder. This is considered one of the top 3 Holofoils for Dragonite.

PSA Population Report:

There has been a total of 460 of these cards submitted to the PSA for grading. Of that amount, PSA Mint 9 has the most grades given out at 194. The PSA has only given out 79 perfect Gem Mint 10 grades for this card. The lowest grade that was received was a PSA of GOOD2. The PSA is showing a slight increase in price for this card so it may be something to keep an eye on.

1995 P.M Japanese Topsun Dragonite Holofoil

This Topsun Dragonite Holofoil was released after June 1997 with one card in two boxes of gum. There are a total of three different possible Prism patterns. These are the first origin cards for the Pokemon we know and love today and the Blue back cards are the rarest of the Topsun cards. The front of this card features a portrait picture of Dragonite with vertical blue, red and green stripes, with small golden Pokémon shadowns stamped on it. The back of the card is Blue and features a picture of Dragonite as well as stats and facts. This card is very hard to find in Perfect condition since it is so old and they were only sold in Japan with gum in the pack. Most of the ones that have made it this far, show wear and tear and that makes these perfect one’s worth even more.

PSA Population Report:

There has been a total of 89 Holofoil Dragonite Topsun cards submitted to the PSA for grading. Only 10 cards have received a perfect grade of Gem Mint 10 condition. The lowest grade given was a PSA grade of Auth.

2002 Pokémon Dark Dragonite Legendary Collection- Reverse Foil

This card features the signature fireworks- like Reverse Holofoil, perfectly blending the card to make it seem like you are in a glistening sky. This card was released in the May 24, 2002 Legendary Collection series.  Dragonite is featured as a Colorless-type Stage 2 Pokémon card. This card was first released as part of the Team Rocket expansion then re-released in the Legendary Collection expansion. This is considered a fan favorite Dragonite Reverse- Holofoil and really gives Dragonite a majestic look.

PSA Population Account:

There has been a total of 385 of these cards submitted to the PSA for grading. The Mint 9 graded cards have the most cards, with a total of 133 receiving this grade. There has been a total of 36 Reverse Foil Dark Dragonite cards that have been graded with a perfect PSA score of Gem Mint 10. The PSA is showing a very good increase in price for this card.

1995 P.M Japanese Topsun Dragonite Green Back

This card was in the same set as the Blue back cards that were only released in Japan in 1995, and sold in the apple gum packs. There were 150 Pokémon included in this set with two variants, Blue- back and Green- back. These cards are also much more delicate than the newer Pokémon cards and it’s very hard to find them in good condition. As an original card for Dragonite (along with the Blue-back Dragonite) the art work is very good and gives it a very retro feel. Unlike the previous Topsun Dragonite Blue- back, this Green- back Dragonite contains a half-art of Dragonite with its stats below its picture, instead of on the back.

PSA Population Account:

There are only 40 of these old-school Green Back Dragonite cards that have been submitted to the PSA for grading. The lowest scoring card received a grade of VG 3. Which honestly would be expected from a card this old unless it was kept in really great condition. There have been 11 Green Back Dragonite cards that have been graded a perfect Gem Mint 10.

2002 Pokémon Dragonite- Holo Expedition

This Dragonite was a part of the Pokémon-e: Expedition Base Set that was released in English on September 15, 2002. This card contained an e-Reader strip on the bottom and left of the card as well as a e-Reader symbol on the bottom left corner and was a Colorless- type 2 card. This card also was included on numerous card changes. The left and bottom borders increased to allow for the e-Reader card strip to fit. The artwork is also rounded on the top left of Dragonite’s picture and included a unique ID number located below the artwork window. On this card, Dragonite looked more cartoonish and cuter and had a very cool Holofoil-star background.

PSA Population Account:

There has been a total of 466 Dragonite Holo Expedition cards sent in for PSA Grading. The lowest grade given was a PR 1. Mint 9 has the highest number of cards graded, with 191 getting this grade. There are only 30 cards that have received a perfect Gem Mint 10 grade. This card has great potential for price value increases in the future. Many of these e-Reader cards are hard to find in perfect condition due to a lot of times kids were swiping them in the e-Reader and accidentally damaging them.

2002 Pokémon Neo Destiny Light Dragonite- Holo 1st Edition

Light Dragonite was included in the English February 28, 2002 Neo Destiny Series Featuring a Colorless- type 2 Dragonite. This was the first card set to introduce Light Dragonite, which has gold and white artwork window, Evolution box and Pokédex box. Light Dragonite has higher HPs compared to normal Dragonite, and attacks that aid other Pokémon in play. This card also features Dragonite as a level 47, when Dragonair does not evolve into Dragonite until level 55. This card really does bring the name Light Dragonite justice with the use of the light color for the card and the assortment of blue water for Dragonite’s artwork background.

There have been 308 of These Light Dragonite cards sent to the PSA for grading. The lowest score was a VG-EX4. The most common score with 219 cards was a Mint 9. There have been 91 cards graded with a perfect Gem Mint 10.

1997 Pocket Monsters Dragonite- Prism Carddass

The Pocket Monster Carddass Trading Cards were a set of cards made by Bandai Carddass in 1996 and 1997 in Japan and all artwork was done by Ken Sugimori. These cards were widely regarded as the first Pokémon cards ever released. This card was in Part 3&4 of the set and shows Dragonite using a signature move. On the back, this card showed the evolution of Dragonite as well as stats and his signature attack he was doing on the front of the card. This Dragonite card was one of the few cards that were released with a Holofoil background on the front and make it a very sought-after card.

2000 Topps Chrome Dragonite Pokémon T.V

2000 Topps Chrome Dragonite was a part of the Pokémon Chrome Trading Card Series 2 set released by Topps in 2000. These cards were released out of the animated television show. This card is a Spectra- Chrome Dragonite and features a back to the card with a description from Dragonite’s first appearance in the animated series. Though you couldn’t play this game with the Pokémon TCG, it was still a very neat card to have and collect. This Dragonite card features a metal-like surface, with a more upscale look and feel. The background has very abstract art and etchings that go with the Flying-type of Pokémon that Dragonite is. This card has a high nostalgic collecting base and a perfect card for any Dragonite fan.
