With the ability to naturally shoot water from its large cannons, it can shoot water at such a high-powered force it can hit multiple targets more than 160 feet away. Blastoise has a cannon so powerful there is a legend that says this cannon blasted holes into mountains.

The Blastoise Cards

Blastoise is able to use different combinations of its 31 various sized cannons, depending on the situation it is in. It can overwhelm enemies by firing powerful torrents from multiple cannons at once. The two main inspirations for Blastoise were tanks and turtles. Just by looking at its shell and huge cannons, you can truly tell this Pokémon is not to be messed with.

When in Mega form, Mega Blastoise is the only Mega Evolved form of a starter Pokémon that is not a dual-type. Depending on its condition and demand, Blastoise cards can be worth anywhere from $5 to $50,000.

Category and Element of Blastoise

Blastoise get’s its name from a combination of blast and tortoise. Along with Kabuto and Kabutops, they are known as the Shellfish Pokémon. Blastoise is a Water-type Pokémon, with cannons so powerful they can pierce steel and concrete.

Due to its Water-type, Blastoise is very weak against damage from Electric and Grass type moves. Blastoise is also very strong against Steel, Water, Fire and Ice-type Pokémon. Wartortle evolves into Blastoise at level 36 and can Mega Evolve into Mega Blastoise.

1999 Pokémon Game Blastoise- Holo 1st Edition

This card was a part of the Base Set, the first main expansion of the Pokémon TCG, released in English on January 9, 1999. This set of cards was based on the Pokémon Red, Blue and Green games and features Generation I Pokémon. All cards in the 1st Edition and Shadowless runs were printed with thinner HP and attack text. These cards were without drop shadows for the artwork window. This card features a Water-type Stage 2 Blastoise on the card with artwork by Ken Sugimori. Along with Charizard, this is one of the most valuable cards of the Base Set. These 1st Edition Blastoise cards are so valuable, even lower PSA graded cards still can pack a large price tag.

1995 P.M. Japanese Topsun Blastoise Holofoil

This Holofoil 1995 Topsun Blastoise was one of 3 different variations of cards made by Topsun. There was a Green-back, Blue-back, and as pictured above, a Holofoil. The holofoil features a full-art picture of Blastoise with a Holofoil background, and yellow foil silhouettes of other Pokémon. The back of this card shows Blastoise as being the number 9 card in the set, it also shows Blastoise’s stats and a move that he does. These Topsun cards were the first origin card for Blastoise and were released in Japan in June of 1997, included in a pack of gum. This card could not be played with the official Pokémon TCG, instead it is sought after today by collectors. The Holofoil cards are the most valuable of the three. Back in 1995, Pokémon wasn’t nearly as popular and no one really thought to collect these cards that came with a pack of gum, making them pretty rare for collectors.

2000 Topps Chrome Blastoise Pokémon T.V.- Sparkle

This Topps Blastoise card was a part of the Chrome Trading Card Series 1, produced by Topps in 2000. There are three variants of this card, the one pictured is the Sparkle-Chrome version. It features Blastoise on the front of the card with multi-colored sparkles in the background. The back of the card shows a side view of Blastoise and a description from it’s first appearance in the Anime Episode 17- “Island of Giant Pokémon”. This card, like the Topsun cards, cannot be played in the Pokémon TCG. Instead, this card is for collectors and fans of Blastoise. Since this card is older and not many have been sent to the PSA, this card can be worth some money.

2002 Pokémon Dark Blastoise Legendary Collection Reverse Foil

This Dark Legendary Blastoise was a part of the Legendary Collection that was released on May 24, 2002. This set featured reprints of the Base Set, Jungle, Fossil, and Team Rocket expansions. It was the first set to introduce Reverse Holofoil prints, where the card is Holofoil everywhere except for the artwork window. This Blastoise card features a Water -type Stage 2 Blastoise, with artwork by Mitsuhiro Arita. The artwork shows Blastoise moments before preforming Hydro Cannon, with water streaks surrounding the Pokémon. The Reverse Holofoil on the card looks like fireworks, but with water exploding. Cards from the Legendary set tend to hold their value due to the appearance of the firework patter on the card.

2002 Pokémon Blastoise- Holo Expedition

This card was released as part of the Pokémon-e: Expedition Base Set, released in English on September 15, 2002. This card featured an updated card design, the left and bottom border size was increased to fit the Dote Code for the Nintendo e-Reader. The Pokémon artwork box was rounded to the left. Since this is a Rare Holo card, Blastoise has its length and weight moved to the left. Blastoise was featured as Water- type Stage 2 Pokémon with artwork by Kimiya Masago. These cards are pretty hard to find in perfect condition due to them being used with the e-Reader, it was very easy to damage the card.

2004 Pokémon EX Blastoise EX- Holo Fire Red Leaf Green

This card was a part of the EX FireREd &LeafGreen expansion set released in English on August 30, 2004. This set featured Generation I Pokémon and the Kanto region. This card features a Water-type Stage 2 Blastoise with artwork by Hikaru Koike. Of the three final evolutions of Kanto starters, this is the only one without an attack roughly similar to its Base Set counterpart. This is also the only one to not have two attacks. This card has a very cool sparkly-silver boarder and makes Blastoise look very animated.

2010 Pokémon HG & SS Blastoise Holo Unleashed Prerelease Staff

This card was a Prerelease promotional card for the Unleased expansion. The staff that were present and helping to oversee the event received a specially stamped “Staff” print on this card in the lower left of the artwork box. This card also features a Water-type Stage 2 Blastoise with artwork by Masakazu Fukuda. The artwork shows a Blastoise preforming the move Wash Out, the Holo on this card really makes the water look life like. Since this card was only a promo card for staff at the event, there are not too many of these cards out there making them quite rare. This card is quite rare and can still have some value when in perfect condition.
