Team Rocket Pokémon Card Guide
Pokémon trainers believe you need to love and show your Pokémon positive attention for them to be properly raised and evolve. But what if you did the opposite of that? Would the Pokémon still turn out the same or would they be evil? That was the grounds for this Pokémon TCG expansion.
Team Rocket introduced Dark Pokémon, which were corrupted by Team Rocket and made them evil. These Pokémon feature high attack damage, offensive strategies and artwork to signify they were corrupt Pokémon.
With all of these Dark Pokémon that have been made, which Team Rocket cards have the best values?
Team Rocket Card Values
Vintage Pokémon cards are literally price spiking right now. You can find lower graded cards still at a decently priced amount, however for PSA 10 cards, the price can get quite high. Team Rocket cards have also been soaring. Older Pokémon sets tend to retain their value, however not every card is worth money just because it is old.
There are some Team Rocket cards that are pretty valuable, but there are also other cards that really are not worth much than normal cards. Let’s take a look at some of today’s top Team Rocket card values.
2000 Pokémon Rocket Dark Dragonite No Holo- 1st Edition
This Dark Dragonite card in the Team Rocket set was the second time this card was reprinted, only this time in an evil form controlled by Team Rocket. Most sets include a Rare Holo card and its non- Holo counterpart; this set had an error and included this misprint.
During printing, the Holo version of Dark Dragonite is numbered 5/82 and the non- Holo is 22/82. But during printing, a few of the Dark Dragonite cards that were numbered 5/82 were accidentally printed without the Holofoil, making it look exactly like the non-Holofoil counterpart. This card is ranked 3rd out of the 16 hardest error cards to find. Because this card has a very low population and it’s a misprint, this card is the most valuable card in the Pokémon Team Rocket expansion.
PSA Population Report:
A low amount of 43 of these Dark Dragonite misprint cards have been graded by the PSA. The lowest grade was a VG- EX 4. The most common grade, with 22 cards, is a Mint 9 condition. Only 5 of these cards have been graded a perfect Gem Mint 10 condition.
Average Selling Price: $25,000
2000 Pokémon Rocket Dark Magneton- Holo 1st Edition
This Dark Magneton card really took Pokémon fans by storm with this card’s artwork. It features Magneton, with glowing eyes, and a very sparkly background made up of glitter, surrounding Magneton. This is one of the most realistic Magneton cards, with other cards making the Pokémon look maybe too much like it does in the Anime. This card is also harder to find with a perfect condition, bringing up this card’s value.
PSA Population Report:
The PSA has graded 1,865 of these Dark Magneton cards. The lowest grade given was a Good 2. The most common grade, with 676 cards, is a NM-MT 8. There are only 55 of these cards that have been graded a perfect Gem Mint 10 condition.
Average Selling Price: $6,600
2000 Pokémon Rocket Dark Charizard- Holo 1st Edition
Charizard has been a fan favorite since the beginning of the series and Dark Charizard is no different. One of the most popular Pokémon in the Team Rocket expansion has to be Dark Charizard. Charizard is one of the most popular in the Pokémon card collecting hobby and most new collectors that join are all going to want one of these cards. As you can see on this card, Dark Charizard is not a Pokémon that you should mess with. The frightening look on Dark Charizard’s face will make anybody stop in fear. Even though this card does have a pretty high population, this card is still very valuable and extremely collectable if you can get it in perfect condition.
PSA Population Report:
The PSA has graded 4,337 of these Dark Charizard cards. The lowest grade given was a PR 1. The most common grade, with 2,106 cards, is a Mint 9. There has only been 489 of these Dark Charizard cards graded a perfect Gem Mint 10.
Average Selling Price: $4,500
2000 Pokémon Rocket Dark Blastoise- Holo 1st Edition
Blastoise is one of the evolved forms of the original three starter Pokémon and is not a card to take lightly. This is considered one of the best Blastoise artworks and the whole galaxy effect going on in the background absolutely shines beautifully in the light. This background is one of the best for this Pokémon and when it catches the light it just shines so nicely. This cards artwork is considered iconic for this war machine turtle. This card at a PSA 9 and 10 are very expensive, while an 8 and below are fairly affordable for someone looking to add this card to their collection.
PSA Population Report:
This Dark Blastoise card has been graded by the PSA 2,939 times. The lowest grade given, with 5 cards, is a PR 1. The most common grade, with 1,297 cards, is a Mint 9 condition. This card has been graded a perfect Gem Mint 10 condition 194 times.
Average Selling Price: $3,000
2000 Pokémon Rocket Dark Raichu- Holo 1st Edition
This Dark Raichu card was added to the Team Rocket expansion as a Secret card. This is a Secret card because its collection number is greater than the listed number of cards in the set. Secret cards are usually rarer than the other cards in the set. This Dark Raichu was the first Secret card to appear, it was not even included in the Japanese version of the set. Due to the Pokémon TCG skyrocketing and investors collecting vintage cards, this Secret Rare Dark Raichu card is on the rise.
PSA Population Account:
This card has been graded by the PSA 2,661 times. The lowest grade, with 1 card, is an Auth. The most common grade, with 1,286 cards, is a Mint 9 condition. This card has been graded a Gem Mint 10 condition 224 times.
Average Selling Price: $2,300
2000 Pokémon Rocket Rainbow Energy- Holo 1st Edition
This was one of the first Energy cards to appear as a Holofoil card in the Pokémon TCG. Special Energy cards provide more than one Energy of a specific type and have additional effects besides providing energy. This Energy card has some amazing Holofoil graphics of a Rainbow Energy and looks like a typical atom. This card is a very rare card and highly collectable. This card has a pretty low perfect population and that is what is going to keep these cards value up in the future.
PSA Population Account:
This card has been graded by the PSA 1,376 times. The lowest grade given, with 2 cards, is a VG 3. The most common grade, with 652 cards, is a Mint 9 condition. Only 87 of these Rainbow Energy cards have received a perfect Gem Mint 10 condition.
Average Selling Price: $1,500
2000 Pokémon Rocket Dark Alakazam- Holo 1st Edition
This card has a decently high value despite being one of the cheapest Holo Rares in the Team Rocket set. The Holofoil shows Dark Alakazam with a light of Holofoil specks shining down on it from the top left corner of the card. Alakazam was always a pretty scary Pokémon, but this card adds to that extent by showcasing its scary features. In a low condition, this card sells for less than $100 and a Mint 10 can go for nearly $1,000.
PSA Population Account:
These Dark Alakazam cards have been graded by the PSA 1,957 times. The lowest grade, with 6 cards, is a GOOD 2 condition. The most common grade, with 1,000 cards, is a Mint 9 condition. Only 258 of these Dark Alakazam cards have been graded by the PSA.
Average Selling Price: $820
2000 Pokémon Rocket Dark Dugtrio- Holo 1st Edition
Dugtrio are known to loathe sunlight and are more aggressive than Diglett. Dugtrio will use all kinds of methods to attack its enemy. The normal version of Dugtrio looks happy and cute; that is not the case for Dark Dugtrio. Dark Dugtrio fully embraces its more aggressive nature and has an angry face compared to its normal look. Regardless, this card has awesome hand-drawn artwork that is unmatched by the digital artwork of its Base Set counterpart. Dark Dugtrio has been holding its value and could be due to its low population value for perfect PSA 10 grading.
PSA Population Account:
A total of 1,682 of these Dark Dugtrio cards have been graded by the PSA. The lowest grade received, with 2 cards, is a PR 1. The most common grade given, with 831 cards, is a Mint 9 condition. There are only 134 of these Dark Dugtrio cards that have been graded a perfect Gem Mint 10 condition.
Average Selling Price: $790
2000 Pokémon Rocket Dark Machamp- Holo 1st Edition
Machamp punches very quickly, throwing five hundred punches a second and Dark Machamp’s Mega Punch is no different. Machamp are known for being fierce and strong and turning this Pokémon into a Dark Pokémon was no mistake. This Dark Machamp card is really cool for making it seem like Machamp is going to reach out of the card at you. This card at a lower PSA rating is around $100 which is honestly really good.
PSA Population Account:
A total of 1,677 of these Dark Machamp cards have been graded by the PSA. The lowest grade given, with 2 cards, is a GOOD 2 condition. The most common grade, with 852 cards, is a Mint 9 grading. There are 207 of these Dark Machamp cards that have been graded a perfect Gem Mint 10 condition.
Average Selling Price: $640
2000 Pokémon Rocket Dark Gyarados- Holo 1st Edition
This card really gives you insight to the Dual-type Water/Flying Pokémon that Dark Gyarados is. This picture of Dark Gyarados’ fangs is crazy considering this Pokémon can crush stones and its scales are harder than steel. Dark Gyarados is feared for its fierce temper and destructive tendencies and having this Pokémon as a corrupted Team Rocket Pokémon is very fitting. This card is very affordable in a slightly less than perfect condition, a Mint 9 and lower is under $150. It is very surprising that with this card’s capabilities and artwork that this card is not worth much more.
PSA Population Account:
This Dark Gyarados card has been grade by the PSA 1,951 times. The lowest grade given, with only 1 card, is an Auth. The most common grade, with 1,034 cards, is a Mint 9 condition. This card has been graded a perfect Gem Mint 10 condition 377 times.
