2000 Mewtwo Black Star Promo- Mewtwo Strikes Back

This card was one of four possible Wizards Black Star Promos that people could receive with the purchase of a ticket for the theater release of Mewtwo Strikes Back, released on November 12, 1999. It has a gold foil stamp in the top right corner that reads “Kids WB Presents Pokemon The First Movie”. An unknown amount of these have the gold foil stamp on the opposite corner, rotated 180 degrees.

This card was first released in Japan in the Pocket Monsters Fan Book in 1997. Later it was reprinted as the Wizards Black Star Promo, with different artwork, and included in the VHS and DVD releases of Mewtwo Strikes Back in 2000. With a PSA grade of 10, this card can average around $450.

Rocket’s Mewtwo EX is a Darkness-type Basic Pokemon-EX card. It is a part of the EX Team Rocket Returns expansion. The English expansion was released on November 8, 2004, while the Japanese was released on October 15, 2004. The EX Team Rocket Returns expansion was the seventh main expansion of cards from the EX Series. It is the third main expansion of the PCG Era of the Pokemon card Game in Japan.

This card seems to be based on Rocket’s’ Mewtwo from Gym Challenge. They both feature a Darkness Switch attack. Mewtwo was owned by Giovanni, the leader of Team Rocket, for a brief time in the anime. With a PSA grade of 10, this card can go for around $3,600.

Japanese Mewtwo GX was included in part of the Hidden Fates expansion, but first released as part of the Japanese Sun & Moon Family Pokemon Card Game set. The Full Art and Rainbow Rare versions were released in Japan as SM-P Promotional cards.

Participating Pokémon Centers and stores hosting Pokémon Card Gym meeting between July and September of 2019, held Mewtwo HR Competitions. Those reaching the knockout stages were given a copy of the Full Art version of this card, while the overall winners were given the Rainbow Rare version. In total, only 300 copies of the Rainbow Rare version were awarded. In perfect condition this card can sell for as high as $15,000 on eBay.
